Seth Lundy- Penn State (SF) Age: 23.2yrs 6’6 219 (Max Strus)

Lundy is an excellent shooter with a great high release point. He is also an excellent ball mover, often cutting back towards the basket because players are so worried about him shooting threes off screens. He got some isolation opportunities in Penn State's small ball spread offense and while he was able to take guys on and beat them to the basket it was on mismatches don’t count on him breaking down a defense like that in the NBA. What was encouraging about those plays was the ability to shoot off the dribble and it showed his aggression when he does go to the basket.

Athletic 3 and D wing. Shoots lights out even contested. Can finish above the rim. Uses athleticism and length to get a lot of blocks for a guard. Not the best ball handler or passer yet, but makes the easy passes. Can be turnover prone when trying to create own shot. High role player potential thanks to length, athleticism, and shooting.

As we go further down the list, I think we only have two more players who boosted their draft stock through the NBA Draft Combine, and Seth Lundy benefited from a great combine performance. He shot 8-11 from downtown in those two games, displaying some solid 3&D potential. Again, his shooting is his most valuable asset as a prospect. He drilled 40% of his threes on 240 total attempts. He displayed good versatility from a shooting perspective, nailing his shots from all around the line, off the catch, as a spot-up shooter and very rarely off the dribble. I emphasize the "very rarely" because the 54% shooting on isolation plays are misleading; he only attempted 26 total shots that were classified as an isolation play. Lundy had the ability to do a little bit of everything, but it is a case of if that can translate. His two-point percentage increased to 53%; he shot 93 more threes than he did twos. He was not the most comfortable getting to the basket or operating in the mid-range or being a playmaker for others or sizing up defenders and making a play for himself. There is a lot of discomfort in the other things, but he never backed down from those challenges, and that deserves respect. He was also a guy who never backed down from a challenge on the defensive end; his effort needs to be commended more. His wingspan is what creates this hypothetical 3&D mold for him, and while he was solid as a perimeter defender, his athletic limitations does not make him a versatile defender. He struggled with guarding speed and never really utilized his broad frame and wingspan to disrupt ball-handlers' size ups. His struggles with navigating pick-and-rolls are attributed to his lack of athleticism and speed as well. He'll always remain a solid team defender with his effort alone, but there is definitely aspects of his game where I do not foresee much improvement. Seth Lundy is a very basic prospect to analyze, and his shooting versatility and efficiency sets a nice floor for role players in a playoff setting.

  • Player Comparison: Shades of Max Strus and Alec Burks

  • Projected Draft Position: Picks 40-50

  • Best Fits: Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers

Insane 6’6” 220 build for a guard - reminds of David Roddy, big frame for a small position Impressed at the combine Excellent shooter, Nice feet Movement shooter Gets his release so high, unblockable Awkward yet productive frame allows for physical play (rebounds, post, etc.) Quick, gets to spots when he needs to Like his defense, tough to out-play someone like Lundy Almost comical who much his head is on a swivel Very slow, clunky lateral movement, can’t hold against quicker guards, even guys like Jett Howard Contributing role player, plays winning basketball Values simpler, less complex plays - right brand of basketball Don’t love him as a one-on-one, late shot-clock player, can’t create for himself at a high level Limited athletic burst, relies on intelligence, positioning, and mechanics Shot, while efficient, was a weird hitch, release always seems like it’s on the way down Impressive catch-and-shoot threat, has a quick transfer from receiving the ball to getting the shot up Dillon Brooks-type frame, impactful on defense Holds his own against bigger players, strong and stable Such a great bail-out option post-offensive rebound See him guarding the three at the next level, isn’t laterally talented enough to handle quicker guards Opens up the offense so much with movement shooting ability - get him hot off screens and DHOs, your offense can run… Shoots well over defenders, can drain with distractions Decent defender in space, a bit hunky-junky, but a stable option Almost like a J.J. Redick with how comfortable he is with his shot on the move Very loose range, can hit from deep Gets into really good grooves with his shot, becomes unstoppable Insanely good at the combine, flashes unstoppable movement shooting Underrated vision, sees the half-court Real gravity, let Jalen Pickett flourish with open lanes Defensive playmaker, occasional turnover forcer Solid off-ball in general, not just the perimeter, finds open space and exploits it Streaky throughout the game, has 2-minute, 5-point stretches, as long as 15-minute, 0-point stretches, depends how much he’s guarded Patient game, rarely forces shot Wasn’t a main focus in the clutch, defense learned how to guard him

Tier 5: Rotation piece (5th, 6th, 7th men of a middle team or end of the bench of a contender)

Dead-ass shooteur, not afraid of anything. Built strong at 6-foot-6, Penn State junior Seth Lundy hit 40 percent of his 3s last season. He averaged almost twice as many 3-point attempts as 2-point attempts, which could appeal to NBA teams looking for a confident bomber to space the floor from the wing. He doesn’t create much separation off the dribble, but Lundy flashed the ability to attack closeouts and hit contested jumpers. He’s got the bucket-getting gene.

Best fit team : Oklahoma City Thunder, Orlando Magic, Golden State Warriors.

Best Rank : 39. Lowest Rank : 55. Final Rank : 41.

Rank in the 2023 official NBA draft : 46 with the Atlanta Hawks.

Wing/Forward: 6'5" / 6'10" WS / 8'8" SR

Lundy is known for his sharpshooting ability. He shot 41% on C&S looks and is good at getting it off. He has high elevation on his jumper and is unbothered by closeouts. He is has a thicker frame but has a bit of vertical burst. He is slower though and isn't able to attack closeouts or pressure the rim effectively, he relies on technical physicality which he does use pretty well. Defensively he is solid but cant guard quick players. He can play up the lineup a bit. By all accounts Lundy has been a great leader and is a high character prospect.

Long Term NBA Role/Ceiling: 5th Starter / Floor spacer

Draft Range: Mid - Late Second round
