START OF TIER 12

Everything about Jason Preston feels like a walmart version of Lamelo. He’s a big point guard with legit passing, lackluster defense, and developing scoring game. He even kinda looks like him! He should be getting more draft hype IMO, but him being in a small school and lacking athleticism/defense could hold him back. Deserves a flyer due to his passing, and three point potential for sure.

Jason Preston is kinda similar to LaMelo Ball. He''s a triple-double threat who''s a big guard and can play multiple positions. His defense is atrocious, and his free throw shooting needs some work, but his offense is very much appealing. Also let it be known he has limited experience against top competition. Preston showed a great feel for the game at combine scrimmages, not forcing anything and making nice passes to teammates, which NBA teams typically want in a point guard.

Projected draft range: Undrafted

Very good passing vision. Great live dribble passer. Lures defenders to him only to find the open man. Deep range, but does need to time to get his shot. Will make you pay if given the space to shoot. 73% FT shooter coming into his junior year, a bit concerning he''s shooting 63% this year. High IQ decision making out of PNR. Not high level athleticism, but can get himself to the rim and is an efficient finisher when there. Despite not having great burst he is able to use shifty redirection to get where he needs. Nice array of floaters and touch inside 10 feet. His feel for the game shows in all offensive areas, smooth. Competent transition player. Excellent at cutting, making him a threat at all times, even without the ball. Excellent rebounder for the point guard spot, somebody who can grab near 10 boards on any given night. Defensively I need more tape, but he is free moving and his hips turn nicely so there is reason to believe he could be a plus defender. AMAZING STORY.

Good play maker all around. Notably out played Dosunmu albeit, in a barn burner loss. Not the most athletic player, but definitely one of the smartest, craftiest players in the draft. His basketball IQ is off the charts. He is a smart, capable defender, however due to his lack of athleticism, he is probably not your great defender. Preston is one of the older prospects in this draft class.

Jason Preston might just be the best passer I have ever seen at the college level. Preston carried Ohio to the NCAA tournament and actually upset Virginia. He has averaged 15 points 7 assists and 7 rebounds per game. Yes, he only averaged 7 assists but the talent of players he is playing with is not good whatsoever. In the NBA if Preston is getting starter minutes he''ll average 12 AST. Preston has been a pretty solid defender for Ohio this season which I am impressed about.

Strengths -Play maker -Good rebounding for size

Weaknesses -Defense, looks like he''s not trying

Other Notes -Projected to go late 2nd - undrafted -Shown major improvement in high school and freshman to sophomore year -I really think that if given the chance, Preston can be a really nice piece for a team, could be a steal in the late 2nd round

Okay athlete, good body control. Runs the pnr very well, knows the reads to make. Size is good for the point guard position. Will probably shoot it well, overall isn''t going to have the quickness to defend nba starting point guards, will probably have a bench role.
