Strengths

  • Excellent length for a wing at 6-6 with a wingspan around 7-1. Wide shoulders. Fluid. Big reach for a wing. Length makes up for some of his lack of burst or bounce.

Areas to Improve

  • Shot just 42% from 2 and 31% from 3 in 21 games against teams with a winning record, compared to 60% from 2 and 43% from 3 in 11 games against teams with a losing record. Limitations as a shot-creator and finisher (53% at the rim) were a little more pronounced against elite defenses. Lives off of tough jump shots at times and is a good not great shooter at this stage. Shoots it a bit flat when heavily contested.

START OF TIER 4

Moses, even when he doesn''t put up stats, impresses me. His defense is awesome and his arms go on forever. He fights for every loose ball and gets an odd amount of offensive boards. He is in the right place at the right time. When he is getting the ball he goes up a notch. He can stand to work on his playmaking but he will instantly be a high level role player, and I love those guys, they tend to work recently (Mikal, Hunter). The dude just fights and it is super impressive to watch.

Moses Moody might be questioned by a lot by teams thanks to his lack of production against top competition (12-42 during regular season against Top 25 teams). However, his silky smooth jump shot and offensive rebounding and ability to defend is special. He''ll likely be a spot up shooter and spacer on a contending team, similar to Seth Curry and Danny Green on the Sixers right now. Whether he becomes a playmaker and feels more comfortable getting his own shot (77 percent of his offense came off non self creation) will decide if he''s a true No. 1 option. But Moody's length, shooting, and defense plus no glaring weakness in his game (he has steadily improved his self creation, and still has upside to do so) make him a Top 10 guy.

Projected draft range: 8-20

6''6 with a 7''0 wingspan. C&S threat with a nice mid range pull up just outside of 15, bread and butter is a pullup just above the free throw line. 44/37/82 Per 40 20-7-22%USG 2 AST, 2 TO, 6 3PA, 6 FTA. Good bounce in space. Nice fairly aggressive offensive rebounder who will clean up. Has decent footwork when attacking or operating inside the elbow, uses a spin move to free up space and has shown glimpses of a working floater. Finishing skills are workable, good instincts to put him in a good position for easy layups, but doesn't get as vertical as you''d like to see. Very seldom uses his left hand. Adequate passer, but needs to take major strides to be a secondary playmaker. Fills in seamlessly with his offense as a freshman and doesn't disrupt the flow in any sort of way, just does his thing when asked. Could be more consistently aggressive on closeouts, but not bad overall. Questionable lateral movement and hip work, doesn't get low enough in his stance and is prone to blow byes.

Tier 6 Floor - high level rotation player Bullseye - secondary starter Ceiling - key starter

Moses Moody is a 6'6 wing who is a very good, versatile defender and a great 3 point shooter and off the dribble mid-range shooter, but struggles to get to the rim and doesn't have much playmaking ability.

Teams need a player like Moody for perimeter defense and to knock down shots. He might not be a passer, he is a great defender averaging 4 steals a game.

I would LOVE Moses Moody on the Celtics, but unfortunately they likely won't trade into the draft. Moody will be, at worse a good 3 and D wing. He should be able to have a good career in the NBA. Moody will be a high level role player that teams will have a hard time passing on after maybe the 10th pick.

Ceiling: OG ANuobey or Kris Middleton

Floor: Josh Richardson

Comparison: Saddiq Bey

Bey was a good shooter and defender, and I suspect that Moody will be like that. My guess is that Moody will be a little bit worse.

Positives

-A great 3 point shooting prospect, shot 36% on 6 attempts per game with a good FT%, his mechanics are smooth and consistent, shot mostly off the catch but had plays ran for him to shoot on the move (did it pretty well), can shoot with a hand in his face because of his long arms, off the dribble is a work in progress but there is definitely upside there

-Loved attacking closeouts and pulling up for a midrange jumper, shot more efficiently from that area than most top prospects, fun turnarounds and half fades when he gets near the paint and gets separation from the defender

-Consistently drew fouls well despite not being much of an explosive or aggressive driver (almost 6 free throws a game)

-Rare offensive rebounding instincts for a player his size, hustle and instincts go a long way

-Flashes of good playmaking, especially to rollers and cutters, had some fun no-looks

-Defense one of his main selling points, laterally quick, very long wingspan and solid frame, hands always active and gave everyone trouble when engaged, could guard 1-4 in the NBA, smart team defender, used his wingspan to be a problem vertically, getting quite a few blocks in the process

-Winning player, won''t disappoint with effort

Negatives

-Just a really bad finisher right now (especially when you exclude putbacks and transition layups), not a very explosive athlete and tends to avoid contact, currently limits his ceiling as a real offensive creator

-Not a huge weakness but decision making was questionable in traffic, could be a part of not playing on-ball so much

-Not a great ball handler and overall just not a consistent shot creator right now, doesn''t have a great first step or strength to make up for it, this will be a swing factor that can take him from 3 and D guy to an actual secondary or tertiary scorer

-Being a bit more focused when guarding shooters off-ball should be a priority if he wants to achieve his defensive potential to the fullest

-Had games where he barely shot, could be a part of Arkansas''s coaching, but there are questions about his assertiveness

Likely Range: 5-15

A great defensive wing similar to Khris Middleton. Has tons of potential to be an all defensive team level defender and has potential on the offensive end as well.
