Detroit has really had a tough season thus far. Between tying the longest losing streak in NBA history, Monty Williams turning out to be a disaster at head coach and various other on and off court issues, the Pistons really need some help. Last year they went into the lottery with the worst record and one of the four teams with the highest odds but walked away with the 4th overall pick. With their recent luck, they will indeed win the lottery this year when there really isn't any resemblance of a slam dunk #1 overall prospect. That doesn't mean they can't find a great piece to add to the core here though. Alexander Sarr probably is the safest bet to be the top pick in this draft and I think he fits what Detroit would like and need as well. Sarr is a very talented big man who projects to have a very versatile game on both ends of the court. He will likely become most known for his defensive impact, particularly protecting the rim, but he has shown flashes of a 3 point shot, handles and a nice post game making him a potential star. I like the idea of pairing him with Duren in this frontcourt. I would look at the pairing in the same light as duos like Jaren Jackson Jr and Steven Adams of years past or even Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen. Sarr will play more of the versatile dynamic big man role while Duren will be the traditional interior bruiser. Sarr would offer a really nice PnR big man for Cunningham and Ivey as well. If Detroit does indeed wind up with the top pick, I would be surprised to see them go anywhere but the French bigman here.
