In this one, Houston take a chance on their young core, and draft with picks #4,#6 and #18 to add to it. In my eyes, getting both the Thompson twins would be perfect for this team. Both brothers are good enough on defence and both provide things our team needs, including playmaking and size out of Amen and shooting and size from Asaur.

Another thing the rocket do is use the cap space, but not on free agents. The rockets use the spare money to take on net negative deals, and acquire pick equity in exchange for doing so. The Lonzo trade as well also provides a chance for another really good player, should he ever return form injury. This gives Houston a plethora of draft compensation and opportunities to stay young and keep building.

The negative to this concept is simple, OKC have Houston’s 2024 pick, so there’s no reason for the Rockets to be bad then. My only argument to that is: if we’re going to be either mediocre with old players, or bad with young players, in this specific instance I’d rather be bad with the young guys, and keep giving them room to grow, and attempting to win games. There’d be no reason to lose, so the team would be trying to win and hopefully get into some good tendencies. The only other thing I would suggest this team needs is some vets from free agency so that there’s an older presence in the locker room to keep the team straight. A Dwight Howard or Derrick Rose would suffice.
