Teams after reset: Kings: Fox Caruso Thybulle Murray Sabonis Vincent Monk Barnes Lyles Len Ellis Jones Edwards Toscano-Anderson McGee

Bulls: Brogdon White Huerter Grant Vucevic Ivey Dosunmu Craig Hachimura Drummond Carter Terry Phillips Taylor Wiseman

Blazers: Henderson Simons Sharpe Williams Ayton Mitchell Duarte Murray Camara Brown (Ball) Rupert Harris Walker (Williams)

Pistons: Cunningham Lavine Knox Bogdanovic Duren Hayes Thompson Livers Vezenkov Stewart Sasser Morris Burks Bagley

Lakers: James Reeves Reddish Derozan Davis Russell Christie Prince Vanderbilt Wood Hood-Schifino Lewis Hayes

Why for this Kings— The Kings effectively have six players they turn to for offense/shooting— Fox Monk Murray Barnes Sabonis and Lyles. What they need are defenders who don’t interrupt the offense. Caruso is consistently one of the best defenders in the NBA and Thybulle’s one of the best stocks guy in the NBA— and this year both of them are shooting consistently well. Put Caruso and Thybulle in the starting lineup, and the Kings can finally generate the D and steals/blocks they need while giving Fox/Murray/Sabonis space to cook— and Monk there are your microwave with Barnes/Lyles are offensive change of pace guys. This could be a championship contender. Vincent (who could ultimately be a useful piece) along with the picks are the price of building a two-way monster.

Why for the Blazers— The Blazers could indeed hold out for a better package for Grant, Brogdon and Thybulle. But they’ve been playing Brogdon/Thybulle on the bench and Grant’s contact makes a lot of teams gun shy. Here, the Blazers get three recent first-round guys who could use a change of pace in Williams, Mitchell, and Duarte— all three, particularly Williams, could hit on their potential and become bigtime 3-and-D starters (they’ve all done so at points in their young careers). Plus, and unprotected Kings first and control of their first and second back. Plus, Ball could reemerge in that last year, and Harris and Ball make for big savings.

Why for the Bulls: It’s clear that the current lineup isn’t going to win a championship— fighting for the play-in seems best case. So why not take a shot at young guys while fighting for the play-in? Ivey has struggled this year, but he showed incredible potential last year and going into the draft— he could hit as a story alongside Colby White. Grant isn’t a first option, but he’s a great second/third option. Brogdon is a steady 3-and-D guard and recent 6MOY. Huerter has shown the ability to shoot lights out and contribute in a number of ways. Hachimura showed up on the big stage and can defend/shoot. Wiseman could still develop into a starting center. Add all that up plus a Lakers first (non-lotto but still) and you can build something great.

Why the Pistons do it: Dumping Ivey is incredibly painful, but the Pistons aren’t playing him as a consistent starter despite despite their trash play. They need consistent points and a true second option for Cunningham. Enter Lavine. Lavine— and incredible scorer who has shown the ability to handle and even defend when motivated— could reclaim his place as an all-star worthy of his huge contract, and the Pistons could build around Cunningham and him, plus the D of Duren and Thompson and the pick they have coming this year. This could help bring the Pistons out of disaster. Wiseman for Vezenkov trades potential (and a big man clog) for a Euro MVP who can shoot lights out on a cheap contract.

Why the Lakers do it: 19-19 doesn’t cut it for James and Davis. Derozan brings in a motivated third option who can handle and score without killing the D (he’s even shooting 3’s ok this year). Gets Lakers out of the Vincent/Hachimura mystery box contracts at the cost of a protected pick.
