Why for the Kings: Grant’s been a logical target for quite some time, and Hayward, when he plays, improves playmaking and shooting. While the Kings miss out on Ivey, they get to choose between Murray and Sharpe at 5 and perhaps Eason, Dieng, Agbaji and Brown at 15. This trade makes them more competitive for a playoff spot next year while still improving their future.

Why for the Pistons: While Holmgren, Smith and Bolmaro are the big 3 of the draft, Jaden Ivey is a close 4th and Shaedon Sharpe is an intriguing home possibility. The Pistons need a second star after Cunningham and trading up to 4th gives them that chance. Plus, they add PJ Washington, who improves their defense while letting them spread the floor.

Why for the Hornets: Holmes gives them them the dependable center they’ve wanted for years. Barnes is a good, dependable floor speaker at forward who works perfectly as a 4th option behind Ball, Bridges and Rozier (also a local favorite as a UNC grad). Along with improving their starting lineup, this trade gives them more cap flexibility by ridding them of Hayward’s bad contract and the impending PJ raise.
