Why the Mavs do this:

They turn Tim Hardaway Jr, Markieff Morris, a 2027 swap and a 2025 2nd for Royce O’Neale and Danilo Gallinari. O’Neale offers another great 3+D wing around Luka and Kyrie, and replaces the role of Dorian Finney Smith. Gallinari is more valuable than Morris on their bench, and they get more financial flexibility for next offseason by getting two expirings.

Why the Nets do this:

They turn Royce O’Neale into Landry Shamet and a 2027 swap. O’Neale is unnecessary on their team since they have Finney-Smith and Cam Johnson long term. Shamet offers another shooter on a decent contract and they pick up a pick for a guy they may not extend.

Why the Wizards do this:

The Wizards have shown a willingness to move on from this core by trading Rui Hachimura. With the Wizards potentially trying to tank for Wembanyama, Porzingis could potentially be expendable. Here, they find a willing trade partner to take on Porzingis and push for a play in spot.

Why do the Wizards do this?

The Wizards receive some young pieces and get some picks for longer term contracts (that can be moved later). Johnny Davis was a young player they just drafted and he hasn’t gotten a chance yet. They gain another young guard in Dalen Terry, who could just be a decent 3+D player but also could be more, you never know. This is about getting good young pieces around Kuzma and Beal, and potentially Wemby. I would be looking for a Beal trade ASAP, and I would trade him to the Lakers for Westbrook and the 2 1sts.
