This isn’t the perfect dreamworld offseason. This is, I think, a doable offseason that greatly improves the Mavericks. Most of our additions are free agents, but there are vital trades to free up the cap to sign these guys. If one of the teams says no, perhaps another team will and we can still free up room that way.

1st: On draft night, Mavs trade the 26th pick, Josh Green, and Marquese Chriss to OKC for Kenrich Williams and Mike Muscala. Mavs do this because they need win now players. Kenrich is a good three and d player and Muscala is a center that should play well with Luka. Thunder may do this because they get younger players and another draft pick. If this doesn’t entice them enough, we could offer Ntilikina instead of Chriss.

2nd: Mavs trade THJ and Dwight Powell to the Spurs in exchange for Josh Richardson and Doug McDermott. Mavs lose some offense but improve defense in the JRich - THJ trade, and McDermott will be utilized later. This also frees cap space. Why do the Spurs do this? They may not, but if they do it’s because this gives Popovic a better roster and one that can help give him one last playoff run. May need to add a pick or another player, not sure. If Spurs say no, Mavs might can find another deal where they can free up a similar amount of cap.

3rd: Mavs trade Bertans and several picks to the Pistons and do a small pick swap. The Mavs would like to do something like this to free up cap space. It doesn’t have to be with the Pistons, just any team that has the cap space and is rebuilding and wants picks.

4th: Mavs trade Trey Burke and Doug McDermott to the Blazers. Again, it doesn’t have to be the Blazers, just a team with a lot of cap space. Since McDermott is a good player, he might appeal more to a team that’s trying to win games. But you could send Ntilikina instead of Burke to a tanking team and that would work too. Either way, some team out there might want him for free and Mavs do it so we can avoid the hard cap and clear a roster spot.

5th: Mavs sign Hartenstein to be their starting center, Dragic to be a backup guard, rescind Moses Wrights contract, extend Pinsons and re-sign Brunson. After all of this, Mavs still remain below the projected hard cap for the upcoming season. If there is room for two-ways (I’m not sure how two way salary cap stuff works) then sign Omoruyi again and maybe an undrafted rookie from this years draft.

Luka , Brunson , Reggie , Dorian , Hartenstein

Dinwiddie , Dragic , Richardson , Kenrich , Maxi , Muscala , Ntilikina , Sterling , Pinson , Boban
